SEAT Alhambra Launched

The SEAT Alhambra launches in UK showrooms this week, the new successor to the original seven-seater MPV people carrier.

Branded the SEAT Alhambra, this new model is said to have had a complete car parts make-over both inside and out.

The Alhambra is the largest car SEAT has made measuring in at more than 4.8 metres stem to stem, and is also boasted as the company’s most luxurious and technologically advanced.

It is one of the most aerodynamic vehicles in the people-carrier range sporting two sliding rear doors so it is more practical for moving objects.

The new model has simplified the way in which car owners can remove second and third row seats, so through the pull of a lever all five second and third row seats move into the car’s floor making space for extra luggage.

In terms of storage, like most MPVs, the vehicle comes with cupholders, tray tables, cubbies and pockets to hold family belongings.  Another hi-tech gadget includes high beam assist technology, which automatically switches between full and dipped beam depending on the oncoming traffic and street lighting.

Customers will also have the option to have Park Assist technology fitted in the vehicle for those who order them from December 2010 onwards.

The technology aids the driver by identifying suitable parking spaces and then automatically attends to the steering while the driver simply controls the accelerator, clutch and brake.

Prices for the new model line start at £22,330 RRP.

Three out of five of the best-selling cars in September were part of the Vauxhall range, new figures reveal.

As the car manufacturer’s popularity continues consumers are likely to be revamping their existing Vauxhall motors putting greater demand on finding good quality car parts.

The Astra range was the top seller of the best-selling car league and the Vauxhall Corsa sold a massive 14,249 vehicles in September alone, the Society of Car Manufacturers and Traders announced.

Vauxhall took a total market share of 12.6 percent of all car sales, and the Vauxhall Insignia remains the UK’s best-selling mid-size car overall, accounting for 18.8 percent of the sales in this sector.

“September is obviously a crucial month for car sales,” commented Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall’s Managing Director.

“The new Movano has also given our CV sales a real boost, helping us achieve one of our best retail market shares ever, totalling 17.77 percent.”

The new Astra Hatch is thought to have boosted the range even further as it took a market lead in the lower-medium sector, selling 12,465 cars in September. The Zafira also remained popular maintaining its top spot in the compact MPV sector and also in the retail and fleet listings.

SEAT’s eco-models offer savings

SEAT is launching a retail offer which will save car buyers up to £2,000 on a range of its Ecomotive models.

Labelled ‘Eco-nomics’, the initiative offers significant savings on the Spanish car manufacturer’s most environmentally-friendly cars.

Motorists can continue to save money after purchasing one of SEAT’s Ecomotive models as they are cheaper to run than less eco-friendly cars.

The company predicts that a customer who buys its Leon Ecomotive SE will save a total of £4,300 over a typical three-year period, based on driving 45,000 miles and including the £2,000 saved on the initial cost of purchase.

In addition, the now Leon Ecomotive model is exempt from road tax as a result of its low carbon emissions, just 99g/km, making it one of the cleanest cars on the road.

Recent figures from Clean Green Cars revealed Toyota to be the most environmentally-friendly car manufacturers, with average emissions of 124.55g/km across its range.

Audi beefs up its Q7 range

Audi has announced changes to its Q7 range, with new engines, a new transmission and improved economy promised.

There will be two supercharged 3.0 TFSI petrol engines to replace the 3.6 V6 and 4.2 V8, and they will boast greater speed and lower CO2 emissions, WhatCar.com reports.

With the 268bhp version, the Q7 can achieve zero to 60mph in less than eight seconds, but the 328bhp is a second quicker. Both engines have CO2 emissions of 249g/km.

Also on the way to the range is a new eight-speed transmission, allowing drivers to switch between Drive and Sports modes for enhanced performance across a variety of driving scenarios.

Prices start at just over £40,000 and initial deliveries are expected in June this year, the car buyer’s guide said.

In late 2009, the German car manufacturer announced that its A3 2.0 TDI model was the greenest of its kind the industry.

Ford Fiesta is Europe’s bestseller

The Ford Fiesta is Europe’s best-selling car in 2010 so far, according to figures from JATO Dynamics.

In March, the Fiesta led the way from the Volkswagen Golf to be the month’s bestseller, taking it to the top of the charts for year-to-date sales.

In total, 140,496 Fiestas have been sold this year, meaning the Ford model has edged ahead of the Golf, which has seen sales figures of 135,048.

Last month, 68, 630 Fiestas were sold, representing a 25.8 per cent rise on the previous year, while 56,845 Golfs were sold during the same period, the automotive date and intelligence provider revealed.

David Di Girolamo, head of JATO consult, said: "Fiesta has been closing the gap to Golf through 2010 and there are a number of factors behind this. The buoyant sales markets so far this year are those where Fiesta is popular and are also scrappage-influenced markets, driving purchase of small cars."

The Fiesta was also the strongest selling used car during the last quarter of 2009, according to data from Experian Automotive.

New speed camera technology is out of this world

Motorists could soon have their speed measured from space, according to a report in the Telegraph.

The Home Office is testing new speed cameras which can track the average speed of a vehicle over long distances by using satellite technology.

A combination of number plate reading technology and a global position system allows the cameras to work efficiently and accurately from a remote distance.

Two sites are currently being tested, one in Southwark, London, and the other on the A374 between Antony and Torpoint in Cornwall.

American-owned company PIPS Technology Ltd has developed the ‘SpeedSpike’ system to calculate average speed between any two points in a network, the news provided states.

An AA spokesperson told the Telegraph: "It is a natural evolution of the technology that is out there."

Earlier this year, the Sustainable Development Commission, advisor to the government, suggested average speed cameras should be installed on all UK motorways.

Seat offers to prepare car parts for winter

Drivers who want their vehicle’s important car parts checked out before the onset of winter may want to pay a visit to their local Seat dealership.

The manufacturer has announced it is offering a free 32-point auto health check this month – and people can take advantage of the promotion regardless of the make and model of their motor.

Mechanics will pay particular attention to tyres, as Seat claimed these car parts play a key role in road safety.

Head of aftersales Nigel Griggs said it is vital these items are kept in peak condition.

"Driving on defective, excessively worn or incorrectly inflated tyres is potentially highly dangerous," he commented.

The group’s offer has been launched to coincide with the campaign National Tyre Safety Month.

In other news, the Institute of Advanced Motorists recently urged drivers to be particularly careful on rural roads at harvest time.

The organisation explained transporting crops from the fields could result in mud being trailed along country lanes, meaning vehicles may struggle to find grip.

Family Seat Ibiza ’should be available in 2010′

A family version of the Seat Ibiza should be available by the middle of next year, the manufacturer has revealed.

The company is displaying its IBZ Concept at the Frankfurt International Motor Show.

It explained it had been keen to build an edition of the car that combines a family-sized chassis with the "feisty personality" of the original Ibiza.

Seat claimed the auto’s headlamps play an important role in the vehicle’s good looks.

It stated the front of the model "boasts an attractive sweep", which has been created through the use of pointed tips on the LED lights.

The carmaker added the interior structure of the headlamps resembles a diamond’s facets.

Commenting on the overall vehicle, Seat stated: "The sporty, design-driven, youthful style of the new Ibiza IBZ Concept make it perfect for those who value space, practicality, comfort and driving enjoyment."

In other news, the manufacturer recently struck a three-year sponsorship deal with European football’s governing body Uefa.
