Next month’s Los Angeles Auto Show will be the venue for the car’s first viewing where motor enthusiasts can see for the first time it’s Scandinavian and aircraft-inspired looks.

The car is moulded from Advanced Saab XWD car parts with Saab DriveSense adaptive chassis with spacious inside seating, ample storage room and a 300 hp 2.8V6 turbo engine.

“It gives us entry to the fast-growing crossover segment with a vehicle that reflects our brand values in key areas, such as progressive Scandinavian design and sporty, responsible driving performance,” said Jan Ake Jonsson, Saab Automobile CEO.

“The 9-4X is an exciting package and we’re confident it will appeal to many existing Saab owners, as well as win new customers for the brand.”

The new Saab claims to be a sporty drive and boasts a wraparound-effect windshield with ice block lighting and flexible cargo handling. The turbo charging engine is aligned with six-speed automatic transmissions which are under adaptive electronic control.

The roofline is made to look lower and extended by a rear spoiler integrated into the tailgate.  The lighting carries forward the signature loo from the new 9-5 saloon.

When inside the interior has supportive seats, which include a standard eight-way electrical adjustment for the driver and front passenger.  In the rear, passengers have plenty of space and this is not compromised by the third row of seats.

Saab hope the 9-4X will go on sale May 2011 in North America with sales in Europe in the following August.

The Swedish town of Trollhattan, Saab’s home, will play host to the four-day event, which runs from July 15-18th, and is the first since Saab became an independent company earlier this year.

As part of the gathering, which will be based around the Saab Car Museum, the manufacturer will launch its 9-5 saloon model, which costs £26,495.

There will also be factory tours, parades, presentations and a celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of the Saab 96.

"This year’s event has special significance as it comes at the start of a new era in our company’s history," said Saab Automobile chief executive officer Jan Ake Jonsson.

"Many Saab fans around the world demonstrated great support for Saab during the sale negotiations and we are delighted to take this opportunity of showing our appreciation."

The 9-5 saloon comes with adaptive headlights, a head-up information display, keyless entry and starting, dynamic parking assistance, dual-zone climate control and an adaptive chassis with damping control.

It is understood that the Swedish government worked alongside General Motors and Spyker to secure Saab’s future, with the decision having been welcomed by all parties.

The agreement states that Spyker will establish a new company, Saab Spyker Automobiles, which will be responsible for the Saab brand in the future. Further terms and conditions in the multi-million dollar deal are expected to be disclosed at a later date.

John Smith, General Motors’ vice president for corporate planning, said the agreement is "great news" for the company and Saab fans across the globe.

"General Motors, Spyker Cars and the Swedish government worked very hard and creatively for a deal that would secure a sustainable future for this unique and iconic brand, and we’re all happy for the positive outcome," he commented.

Spyker confirmed its initial interest in Saab in December after the Swedish company was due to be liquidated.

The 9-5 saloon comes with adaptive headlights, a head-up information display, keyless entry and starting, dynamic parking assistance, dual-zone climate control and an adaptive chassis with damping control.

Saab claimed when the car arrives in showrooms in 2010, it will be an excellent alternative to other motors in the premium sector.

Buyers opting for a diesel version of the auto will find CO2 emissions start from 139 g/km.

However, there will be a petrol option and an E85 bioethonol-powered edition as well.

Earlier this year, the Saab 9-3X crossover arrived on the UK market, priced at less than £25,000.
