Porsche announces Gran Turino Panamera and Panamera 4

Porsche has announced plans to introduce two new models to its Gran Turismo range, with the pair to be unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show in April.

With the German sports car manufacturer having introduced its Panamera in 2009 to widespread acclaim, it has now confirmed that it will be expanding its range with the upcoming introduction of the Gran Turismo Panamera and the Panamera 4.

Both of the new models will be powered by a new 3.6-litre V6 engine, capable of producing 300hp and peak torque of 400nm.

The latest additions to the Porsche family also boast improved fuel efficiency over earlier models, with the Panamera capable of achieving a carbon emission rate of 218g/km and the Panamera 4 a rate of 213g/km.

Furthermore, both models come equipped with "a high standard of comfort and a luxurious interior ambiance", Porsche has stated, while they also boast adaptive air suspension and Bi-Xenon headlights as standard.

At the same time, the company is boosting its green credentials by fitting solar panels to its Porsche spare parts warehouse in Germany, with the new cells expected to generate an output of 2MW.

Porsche to unveil hybrid sports car in Geneva

Next month’s Geneva Motor Show will see the unveiling of the hybrid Porsche 911 GT3 R ahead of racing at Nurburgring in May.

Porsche is promising that the vehicle will take the sports coupe’s evolution "to new levels in motor sport", with it due to compete in a 24-hour race around the Nurburgring Nordschleife on May 15th and 16th.

Developed especially for racing, the 911 GT3 R Hybrdid features an electric flywheel power generator, which is mounted alongside the driver in the vehicle’s cockpit.

It is charged whenever the driver applies the brakes and can store energy mechanically. Its rotors are capable of spinning at speeds of 40,000 rpm.

Porsche has said it isn’t a priority for the 911 to GT3 R win in Germany – instead, it will treat the event as a "racing laboratory" that will allow it to develop hybrid technology further in its range of sports cars.

The manufacturer is currently offering all-weather driver training at the Porsche Experience Centre in Silverstone.

Porsche does TV

There are more than Porsche parts on the agenda from the car manufacturer as it has recently launched its own TV channel.

For anyone wanting to tune in they will be able to feast their eyes on Porsche motors whizzing round the brand’s Experience Centre track at Silverstone, steered by chief driving consultant Gordon Robertson.

The Driving Experience Centre has been open since November 2008, based at the Silverstone circuit.

Silverstone was born out of a redundant airfield which was being used as a farm after the Royal Automobile Club secured a lease on the site from the Air Ministry in 1948.

Alongside the new TV channel, the car manufacturer has also ventured into the world of YouTube.

Content on the site includes everything from historic cars to the 911 GT2 and Jacky Ickx’s qualifying lap at Le Mans in 1977.

Motorists can also take a look at the models such as the Cayenne Turbo in a new light, said to be featured in "stunning displays of car control".

‘Third time lucky’ for Porsche

A new edition of a well-known sports car is set to hit the UK next year.

Porsche aims to bring out the updated Boxster Spyder in Los Angeles in December first, before its British debut.

The latest model marks the manufacturer’s third version of the vehicle but differs in the fact that this one focuses on open-air motoring.

Some of its features include a silhouette of the Carrera GT when the hood is down.

Its weighs in at 1,275 kg – making it Porsche’s least heavy Boxster Spyder to date. This is something that the brand believes will be a winner with its customers.

The new weight means that it stands at 80 kg less than the Sports edition.

Porsche claims its latest offering is the "purist form of the Porsche" due to the car’s technical specification and distinguished style.

It sold its first car in London in 1954 through Archibald Frazer Nash, which lead to the dealer becoming the sole UK retail outlet for the brand until 1965.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS engine ‘offers more power’

The engine in Porsche’s new 911 can rev faster and offers even more power than those in previous editions of the car, it has been claimed.

According to the manufacturer, the power unit of the GT3 RS vehicle has helped to create the most sporting road version of the model ever.

The engine in question is based on the flat six-cylinder boxer variation that is used in the GT3 911.

However, although the new unit displaces 3.8 rather than 3.6 litres like its predecessor, it is also tuned so that it offers even more power to the person behind the wheel.

Buyers can expect an additional 15 hp, compared to the GT3 variation of the motor.

The RS edition of the Porsche 911 is scheduled to arrive in showrooms across the UK and Ireland in February next year.

Prices for the car start at £100,760.

Meanwhile, the manufacturer is to display the next generation 911 Turbo at the Frankfurt International Motor Show next month.
