Mercedes-Benz celebrates racing milestone

It is the year for celebrating 75 years for one car manufacturer’s racers, who first hit the tracks in 1934.

Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows legends include names such as Manfred von Brauchitsch.

In 2010, Formula 1 will see the racing car carriers being used again to compete by a works team sporting the Mercedes star – the Mercedes Grand Prix.

Mercedes claims that today’s racing car carriers are not simply a means of transport but are also like "sophisticated lounges" compared to the conditions experienced by drivers of the 1930s and 1950s motors.

The Mercedes-Benz prototype department created the first fast racing car carrier for transporting especially urgent loads in response to the requests of racing manager Alfred Neubauer.

It carried out the first crash-test for safety 50 years ago as in the fifties it was believed that car crashes could not be made to be survivable and was the official car of London Fashion week for 2009.

For Mercedes spares, 247 Spares is worth a visit.

Mercedes-Benz hosts free track day

Mercedes-Benz has celebrated recent success with a free event it held.

More than 15,000 attendees turned up at the Brooklands tracks for the occasion, hosted by Mercedes-Benz World.

Lewis Hamilton – the Formula 1 winner for last year – was present with Heikki Kovalainen to give spectators a taste of their skills behind the wheel. Finding some Mercedes spares could have been necessary after Hamilton was said to perform ‘doughnuts’ on the track.

He said of the event: "The track here is so much fun. I cannot believe how many people turned up here, but every time we have an amazing turn-out and put an incredible show on for everyone."

The facility hosts exhibits, interactive activities and simulator rides for visitors to make use of.

Guests also have the opportunity to drive a Mercedes-Benz around the circuit of the track, or take the car off-road across ten acres of terrain.

This year Mercedes-Benz also claimed the title of London Fashion Week’s official car.

Special car part ‘contributed to Hamilton F1 victory’

One Vodafone McLaren Mercedes car part played a vital role in allowing the Formula One team to achieve its first victory of the season, it has been claimed.

According to Zytek Automotive, the Kinetic Energy Recovery (KERS) system that it has developed in partnership with the racing group allowed Lewis Hamilton to make a stunning start to the Hungarian grand prix last month.

The technology works by allowing a car to store energy recovered while breaking and release it when the person behind the wheel pushes a button on the control panel.

Zytek Automotive claimed it is possible for drivers to gain between 0.3 and 0.5 seconds a lap using the device.

It stated the system used by Vodafone McLaren Mercedes is generally considered to be the best form of the technology in Formula One.

Meanwhile, motorists keen to ensure a vehicle performs at its best may find replacing worn parts with good quality car spares can help.

Innovative Mercedes car parts ‘have improved E-Class estate’

A number of innovative Mercedes car parts will feature on the manufacturer’s new estate E-Class, the company has claimed.

The group explained some of this technology has been designed to help keep drivers safe – such as automatic emergency braking and drowsiness detection.

It claimed systems like these are not available in any other vehicle in the same category.

As well as leading the field in terms of safety, Mercedes also said the model sets a benchmark when it comes to practicality, comfort and quality.

Fitting the auto with new engines has also reduced emissions and improved economy, the group stated.

It pointed out the E 250 CDI unit allows the vehicle to achieve 48.7 mpg while releasing 150 g/km of CO2.

The model is due to arrive in showrooms up and down Britain towards the beginning of next year.

Earlier this summer, Mercedes announced the introduction of the new CLS Grand Edition.

The company revealed UK numbers were to be limited to 560.

Mercedes parts help to police T in the Park

Mercedes parts helped police in Scotland to keep an eye on things at this year’s T in the Park music festival.

The smart fortwo was used by the Tayside officers to move between different sites at the event and, as a result, it is to be trialled by other forces north of the border.

Tayside Police fleet manager Graham Strachan said the vehicle is "highly visible" and was good for helping maintain presence at the gigs.

Its eco-friendly credentials were also noted. Mr Strachan explained emissions and fuel consumption are currently two priority issues for the authorities.

Mercedez-Benz UK corporate development manager for the north Iain Macpherson also commented on the suitability of smarts, suggesting people "genuinely warm" to them.

"[They are] ideal for community roles – whether general patrol work or visiting local schools, youth groups and neighbourhood watches," he added.

T in the Park took place from July 10th to 12th in Balado, Kinross-shire.

Artists who performed included Blur, Kings of Leon, The Killers and Razorlight.
