Autocar magazine’s Best Driver’s Car has been awarded to the Porsche 911 GT3, beating a number of top cars in the process.

Second place in the prestigious awards was the British built Noble M600, which won praise for its polished, benign chassis and steering, as well as straight-line pace.

The top cars and car parts that won praise from the judges were those which do not induce fear when the ‘ESP’ off button is pushed and the car works with the driver to allow them to exploit it for a better driving experience.

On the Autocar judging board was chief road tester Matt Prior, editor-at-large Steve Sutcliffe and senior contributing writer Andrew Frankel.  Eleven cars in total were put to the test and in total were worth just under £1,000,000.

“On the day of our road and track testing at Donington, the GT3 RS’ drive was simply the most involving, enjoyable and satisfying of all the sports cars involved,” said Chas Hallett, Autocar editor.

The winning Porsche completed the Donington track in one minute 16.3 seconds while the fastest car on the day was the Ferrari 458 Italia which completed the circuit in one minute 15.9 seconds though came in at third place overall.

“Some modern supercars are so quick that their electronic driving aids actually make them more enjoyable,” said chief road tester Matt Prior.

“A moderately handy driver can often extend his own limits, and take the car’s performance further, while knowing there’s a back-up if things go wrong.”
