Toyota has seen record sales for its Prius model in February, showing that UK motorists still have faith in the brand’s quality and reliability.
A total of 538 units were sold last month, which was more than double the previous monthly best of 237 in February 2008.
More than 1.6 million Prius cars have been sold since the first generation model was launched in 1997.
The third-generation Prius is one of three finalists shortlisted for the World Car of the Year 2010 award.
Competing against the Mercedes-Benz E Class and Volkswagen Polo for the accolade, the new Toyota model is also in the running for World Green Car of the Year.
Some 600 Prius hybrid cars are already on roads around the world as part of a leasing project before its official launch.
Before going on general sale, Toyota will be analysing information such as the charging pattern of the battery as well as receiving user feedback in order to verify the overall technological and environmental performance of the vehicle.
