The arrival of the new ‘10′ personalised registration has sparked a rush for motorists to get their hands on brand new plates.

Today heralds the first day the new registration plates will be seen on the road, with the ‘10′ marking those cars registered and released in 2010.

The DVLA says it has sold more than 9,000 personalised plates since the 10-series went on sale at the start of December 1st, while new cars will be automatically assigned the plates as of today.

Damian Lawson, DVLA personalised registrations’ marketing manager, commented: "The simplicity of adapting 10 into the new style registrations in order to make up a personalised registration like a family or company name has clearly proved to be successful."

Among those to snap up the new registrations has been Mackie Motors Renault which has equipped its fleet of Clios with "CL10" plates.

The transition to the current style of registrations, which comprise two letters, a double-digit age indicator, a space and three letters, was introduced in 2001.ADNFCR-2490-ID-19644619-ADNFCR
