The Scuderi Group has announced that its new internal combustion engine has exceeded independent performance simulation testing.

Expected to be on the roads in three to five years, the Scuderi Cycle engine has the potential to deliver vastly improved efficiency in cars.

Scuderi has decided to focus on the short-term improvements that can be made to petrol and diesel engines in order to reduce emissions rather than the longer-term hybrid and electric vehicle models, which have recently been showcased at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Scuderi Cycle has a new firing cycle, which is billed to be the most significant improvement in internal combustion engine design since its first engine 130 years ago.

Tests conducted on the engine have found it offers greater BHP per litre, reduced fuel consumption and emissions compared with a traditional engine, while maintaining consistent combustion.

By 2015, all European Union (EU) car manufacturers have to meet emissions targets of 120g/km through a combination of vehicle technology improvements and the use of biofuels.

Scuderi is already in discussions with a number of top car manufacturers to licence its new engine.ADNFCR-2490-ID-19669896-ADNFCR
