Bullying tactics adopted by drivers can lead to expensive damage, personal injury or even death, according to GEM Motoring Assist (GEM).

GEM, the UK’s largest driving-based road safety association, has warned that bullying on the road, such as tailgating, is a big issue that needs tackling in the UK.

It has produced an information leaflet on the issue to outline the problems drivers faced.

Road safety issues such as speeding and drink-driving are viewed very seriously and offenders are punished when committing these offences.

There are significant dangers posed through tailgating, cutting another driver up or failing to give way at a roundabout, yet these are not punishable offences.

GEM’s chief executive, David Williams MBE, thinks more needs to be done by police to combat the problem of on-road bullying.

He said drivers should be fined or made to attend a rehabilitation programme, if they behave aggressively on the roads, regardless of whether their actions cause an accident or not.ADNFCR-2490-ID-19634942-ADNFCR
