The Volkswagen Scirocco will be available with a new engine from the new year.

An efficient entry-level engine will be available with the model from January 4th 2010.

From then, buyers will be able to order the two-door compact coupe with the 1.4-litre TSI 122 PS engine at a recommended retail price of £18,860.

The new engine means that the car can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 9.7 seconds and has a top speed of 124 mph.

With a small capacity, the new Scirocco is economical – returning a healthy combined economy figure of 44.1 mpg and CO2 emissions of 146 g/km.

The Scirocco has a number of new features including a six-CD autochanger with iPod preparation, rain and dusk sensors, a multifunction computer, air conditioning and 17-inch ‘Donington’ alloy wheels and safety features including ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and six airbags.
