A Toyota Hilux is setting out to help bring back a record to the UK.
The motor will be used by a team who are committed to making Britain the holders of the lawnmower land speed record, aiming to reach a speed of 100 mph.
A Hilux will play the part of support vehicle for Project Runningblade, which will also be using the event as an opportunity to raise funds for Wessex Heartbeat and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Pendine Sands in Wales will play host to the event early next year, for which the US currently hold the record with Bob Cleveland reaching speeds of over 80 mph in 2006.
The 3.0-litre D-4D double cab has been selected by the team to ferry about tools and carry crew over the next couple of months as they go through the test and development processes.
Combined with having good off-road capabilities, the motor’s 343 Nm torque makes it ideal for towing.
The new Hilux is also available under the government’s scrappage scheme, meaning interested buyers can trade in any car they own that is older than a decade in return for a £2,000 discount off the new vehicle.
