A Lotus was recently recognised for being "quite brilliant" by the editor of a publication which gave it an award.

David Vivian contributes to EVO magazine and said the Evora was a "worthy winner" of the Car of the Year 2009 gong.

It was put to the test alongside motors from luxury brands such as Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini, beating them all to first place with a top score of 96 points out of a possible 100.

EVO staffers challenged each of the final contenders in the Isle of Skye, Scotland, where they were driven over three days and 1,000 miles.

Motoring editor John Barker echoed Mr Vivian’s comments by saying that the Evora was "magical".

"It was even better than I remembered – a bit smoother, a bit quicker and even sweeter dynamically, too. It’s a beguiling car," he remarked.

News of the award follows an announcement earlier this year that Lotus had also been highlighted for its technical prowess.

The manufacturer won the Judges’ Special Award at the British Engineering Excellence Awards.
