Five-star safety for Infiniti

A car safety award was confirmed for one car manufacturer today (November 25th).

It came from Euro NCAP – giving Infiniti five stars for the brand’s FX model.

The FX was able to achieve a score of 99 per cent in demonstrating its high safety standards.

NCAP is said to be regarded as the most demanding independent crash test organisation worldwide.

It is the first time that Infiniti’s car has come into contact with the crash barrier, being tested under a more rigorous system introduced for 2009.

Euro NCAP now has a safety assist element included within its testing which then determines a vehicle’s star rating.

Safety highlights of FX cars include adaptive front lighting, around view monitor, intelligent all-wheel drive, tyre pressure monitoring and much more dependent on the model.

Infiniti is a US brand which originally came from Japanese firm Nissan and has been building up its profile over the past 20 years.

The firm states that by next year it expects to have 80 of its centres open throughout Europe.

Fine numbers down, prices up

Some councils have experienced a rise in the collection of parking fines, notes the Taxpayers’ Alliance.

Today (November 25th) the organisation released figures showing that overall the number of parking fines issued was down, compared to 2008’s figures.

Luke Kelly, managing director of Park Let, commented on the reasons why motorists continue to park where they should not

He said: "The parking infrastructure of many of our towns and cities is just not adequate to cope with the volume of traffic. Many motorists and commuters in particular, have little choice but to pull up."

The Taxpayers’ Alliance stated that £328 million had been collected in fines for 2009.

In 2004, before the recession began, car park operators put their annual prices up by ten per cent, meaning that the average monthly space value rose to £93.

Last year the monthly mean value increased to £121. It was discovered that Chelsea and Kensington charged £85 per person (relative to their daytime populus) – the highest average for England.

The TaxPayers’ Alliance was established by Matthew Elliott, Florence Heath and Andrew Allum in 2004 in order to strive for lower taxes and act as a form of representation for tax payers.

Volkswagen ‘transports you back 60 years’

Volkswagen has a host of celebrating to do, scheduled for the end of this year.

Starting this month and continuing into December events will take place at the Wolfsburg AutoMuseum.

They are to mark 60 years since Heinrich Nordhoff presented the first prototype Transporter van.

Since the vehicle was first introduced in 1950 more than ten million of the cars have been purchased, so if you find you are need of a spare Volkswagen part for your motor it could be best to visit 247 Spares.

Volkswagen claims the Transporter is its best-selling model both in the UK and worldwide, with more than one million of the new version being sold in the last six years.

Its first Transporter was a Dove Blue panel van and will be on show when the celebrations take place. It was not until 1984 that the company swapped the car’s engine for a water-cooled unit.

Volkswagen produced its first ever vehicle back in 1934.

On your marks, get set for Ford’s racing range

Ford has produced a new range with performance upgrade packages on offer, reaching speeds that may call for the need of new Ford car parts if drivers are not careful.

The 1.0 GGR RS370FR Focus RS has mechanical enhancements which have been refined to make not only both a reliable and driveable vehicle but one it describes has a "stunningly rapid fast road upgrade package".

Such a package includes a carbon fibre Cold Air Induction System (CAIS), large capacity air to air intercooler with alloy air diverter plates and silicone boost hoses.

Ford RS specialist Graham Goode Racing (GGR) in Leicester was "delighted" to reveal the range bearing its name.

The firm’s technical manager, Alastair Mayne, said of the cars’ specifications: "We’ve made a conscious policy decision to limit the engine’s torque, although there’s certainly more to come from the motor if we wanted it."

GGR’s technical team has used its expertise on the Focus ST to make a "state of the art" CAIS that is well-suited to the RS model.

Ford also currently participates in the government’s scrappage scheme.

Accident prevention ‘goes online’

Finding out about accident prevention has just been made easier thanks to one organisation.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has recently launched an online system hosting a collection of motoring disaster prevention advice documents.

Anyone who is a member of RoSPA will have access to the records, which are said to exceed 28,500 in numbers.

Ibidapo Oketunji, RoSPA’s information services manager, said of the new service: "We hope it will make it easier for them [members] to draw on the expertise contained within our extensive and unrivalled library."

He added that every month the organisation’s Infocentre gets in the region of 550 enquiries from its members, alongside the public.

As part of the new service users will be able to carry out a search for a specific item and then print what they have found, with the ability to save searches to return to them at a later date.

RoSPA has been established now for more than 90 years.

Dyer’s car recovered due to tracking system

Actor Danny Dyer was recently reunited with his stolen Porsche Cayenne thanks to the vehicle’s tracking system.

The star said he was amazed at how quickly he got his vehicle back and added he would make sure all his motors are fitted with similar security features in the future.

His Porsche was kitted out with Tracker’s recovery device, allowing police to find it within an hour-and-a-half of it being stolen.

The system works even if a vehicle is concealed in a garage or taken to another country.

Dyer commented: "Without the Tracker device fitted, my Porsche would still be in the hands of thieves and I may never have recovered it."

The company responsible for the unit works in partnership with all 52 of the UK’s police forces.

In related news, a Tracker device also proved vital in the recovery of a milk float that was stolen in the West Midlands recently.

Mercedes-Benz celebrates racing milestone

It is the year for celebrating 75 years for one car manufacturer’s racers, who first hit the tracks in 1934.

Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows legends include names such as Manfred von Brauchitsch.

In 2010, Formula 1 will see the racing car carriers being used again to compete by a works team sporting the Mercedes star – the Mercedes Grand Prix.

Mercedes claims that today’s racing car carriers are not simply a means of transport but are also like "sophisticated lounges" compared to the conditions experienced by drivers of the 1930s and 1950s motors.

The Mercedes-Benz prototype department created the first fast racing car carrier for transporting especially urgent loads in response to the requests of racing manager Alfred Neubauer.

It carried out the first crash-test for safety 50 years ago as in the fifties it was believed that car crashes could not be made to be survivable and was the official car of London Fashion week for 2009.

For Mercedes spares, 247 Spares is worth a visit.

Conference highlights ‘importance of reducing CO2′

A low-carbon mission to India is set to concur with the 4th biennial international Environmentally Friendly Vehicle (EFV) conference.

The EFV conference will be attended by Controlled Power Technologies, which specialises in the development of CO2 reducing technologies.

Mike Dowsett, senior manager of micro-hybrids at the firm, commented on how the new technologies can be used by car manufacturing companies.

He said: "With virtually no intrusion on base engine design, car makers can confidently apply the technology with relative ease to existing vehicle programmes and at [a] significantly lower cost than developing a full hybrid vehicle."

The company states that micro-hybrid technology could be just what is needed right now in order to assist car makers in successfully meeting the European Commission requirement of 130 g/km CO2 by 2012.

Mr Dowsett added that it is especially important in the current economic climate to consider available cost-effective technology.

EFV conferences objectives are to introduce and promote eco-friendly motors.
