Some councils have experienced a rise in the collection of parking fines, notes the Taxpayers’ Alliance.
Today (November 25th) the organisation released figures showing that overall the number of parking fines issued was down, compared to 2008’s figures.
Luke Kelly, managing director of Park Let, commented on the reasons why motorists continue to park where they should not
He said: "The parking infrastructure of many of our towns and cities is just not adequate to cope with the volume of traffic. Many motorists and commuters in particular, have little choice but to pull up."
The Taxpayers’ Alliance stated that £328 million had been collected in fines for 2009.
In 2004, before the recession began, car park operators put their annual prices up by ten per cent, meaning that the average monthly space value rose to £93.
Last year the monthly mean value increased to £121. It was discovered that Chelsea and Kensington charged £85 per person (relative to their daytime populus) – the highest average for England.
The TaxPayers’ Alliance was established by Matthew Elliott, Florence Heath and Andrew Allum in 2004 in order to strive for lower taxes and act as a form of representation for tax payers.
