Audi has announced a vehicle from its range which does not need a driver.

The driverless TTS Coupe quattro is set to take on the Pike Peak Hill Climb in the states.

It marks 30 years after the first appearance of Audi’s quattro permanent four-wheel-drive technology, which was sure to have fitted completely different Audi car parts.

Dr Huhnke commented: "While a less experienced driver may freeze or make the wrong ‘correction’, the Autonomous TTS would be able to take over or guide the driver to escape from a critical situation."

He added that Audi thinks such a vehicle can react in the same way as a professional driver would – and in the future better than a professional would.

Dr Huhnke gave the reason for this, stating that the car would not be distracted from its course by things such as difficult driving conditions, which would make an ordinary driver inattentive.

Earlier this year the manufacturer reported success in China as it stated it had surpassed the previous year’s unit sales volumes, making it the most successful year in China for Audi.
