A leading technology provider has been given a development contract for a new vehicle as part of the Fuel Efficient Ground Vehicle Demonstrator (FED) initiative.

The programme was launched by the US Army’s Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC).

It applies for the second part of the programme, which centres around design detail of a demo vehicle and adds to the first phase, where Ricardo implemented its Total Vehicle Fuel Economy engineering skills.

Paul Luskin, Ricardo’s chief programme engineer for FED and vehicle engineering manager, said: "The FED project leverages Ricardo’s experience and success in supporting the development of a broad range of military vehicles over several years."

He highlighted that TARDEC had noted the role that Ricardo had played in the Future Tactical Truck System, in which the company had triumphed in its carrying out of putting in advanced technology – working to improve the entire vehicle’s fuel efficiency.

TARDEC is responsible for the development, sustaining and integrating of appropriate technological solutions for all unmanned and manned Department of Defence ground systems.
