Lexus LFA offers “supreme driving experience”

A range of finely-tuned Lexus car parts have been created in order to allow engineers to build the most "driver-orientated" auto possible, it has been claimed.

The manufacturer’s production-ready LFA is due to be officially unveiled at the Tokyo motor show.

Buyers will be looking at paying about £336,000 for the vehicle and they will be able to choose from a range of options to personalise the model, including 30 varieties of paint finish.

Numbers are to be limited to 500 and a maximum of 20 will be built each month to try and ensure the highest possible standards.

Every V10 engine will be built by a single engineer, who will sign the finished product.

Lexus spokesman Haruhiko Tanahashi stated: "The LFA is a thoroughbred supercar, a machine engineered to achieve a single goal – to deliver a supreme driving experience."

Meanwhile, the manufacturer is also due to display its compact premium hybrid model – the LF-Ch – at the Tokyo motor show.

Button may be tempted by Bugatti

The owner of the world’s most expensive Bugatti Veyron is hoping Formula One world champion Jenson Button may be interested in purchasing the model.

Afzal Kahn revealed he will be displaying the vehicle at next month’s MPH Prestige and Performance Motor Show – and said he could be convinced to part with the auto if the price was right.

He suggested the model might be ideal for Button as it features the number plate F1.

The car is capable of accelerating from zero to 100 mph in 5.5 seconds and is the most expensive modern auto on the planet.

However, other vehicles with hefty price tags are expected to be on display at the MPH show.

It is rumoured the Lamborghini GT600, Ferrari FXX and Pagani Zonda R will make an appearance at the event.

The bash is due to get underway at Earls Court in London on November 5th.

In other news, a poll run by organisers of the show recently named Ferrari’s Prancing Horse as the most iconic car badge in the world.ADNFCR-2490-ID-19418811-ADNFCR

VW ‘is a safe choice’

Volkswagen’s safety-focused car parts set a benchmark for the automotive industry, it has been claimed.

The manufacturer stated it offers customers some of the highest levels of protection available.

It pointed out six of its current models have been awarded the maximum five-star safety rating by Euro Ncap – the Touareg, Passat, Touran, Tiguan, Golf and Polo.

The group added the crash tests conducted by this industry body include conditions more stringent than those set out in EU law.

It suggested its success in this area is down to systems like the Electronic Stabilisation Programme that features in all its autos, not just those in the luxury class.

Spokesman Dr Ulrich Hackenberg highlighted the fact the new Polo, Golf and Tiguan recently achieved their maximum ratings after the Euro Ncap requirements were made even tougher.

He stated: "We are very proud of this because safety has a long tradition at Volkswagen and will also be a guide for the development of new models in the future."

Meanwhile, the manufacturer recently announced the latest Polo is available from £99 a month to people purchasing the car before the end of the year.

Nissan unveils plans for car part recycling

Nissan has announced plans to ensure a certain car part used in electric vehicles does not end up going to waste once it is no longer needed in the auto.

Along with Sumitomo Corporation, the manufacturer has launched a business model that focuses on how it can reuse, resell, refabricate and recycle lithium-ion batteries for safe energy storage.

It explained the proposal has been designed to make the most of a growing supply of these car parts that will only increase as electric vehicles gain widespread acceptance.

Chief operating officer Toshiyuki Shiga revealed the company came up with the solution in response to customer concerns.

He stated: "Consumers are excited by the promise of all-electric, zero-emission cars, but they also want assurances that lithium-ion batteries can be reused and recycled."

In other news, What Car? recently named the Nissan Note its Used Supermini of the Year 2009, with judges praising the deceptively spacious interior.

Get car parts in tip-top shape before “Black Friday”

Drivers would do well to ensure their car parts do not present them with any additional problems on what is expected to be one of the worst days of the year for congestion.

Trafficmaster said October 23rd is "Black Friday" as it is likely to see lots of families hit the road for school half-term.

From mid-morning, tailbacks are expected to build and reach a peak in the afternoon, with some routes staying busy until the next day.

The company said high numbers of HGVs on the motorways, together with the school run and the beginning of holidays should make for a congested period.

"Some consolation for motorists is that commuter routes are likely to be much quieter than usual during the following week with no school runs, although the evening peak time will be mainly in darkness," explained data manager for Trafficmaster Graham Smith.

Ahead of Black Friday, drivers may want to make certain their car parts are in good shape.

This could include checking tyre pressures and tread, as well as topping up the engine with oil.

Ford Mondeo milometer clocks a sale at auction

A recent auction saw a car with over 500,000 miles on the clock bought for £825.

The Ford Mondeo Estate TDCI 115 LX Estate’s milometer read 532,491 on its display – a figure BCA London said was one of the highest it had seen in a long time.

UK operations director of the company Simon Hemstock described the distance the Mondeo had travelled and its performance as "exceptional".

Selling it by auction helped it to reach what is actually good value, he added, because a 200,000-mile version has a CAP book price of £1,225 – so the £825 tag was a steal.

"It outperformed all expectations," Mr Hemstock remarked. "The live competitive bidding that takes place during the auction process is critical to achieving the true worth of any asset."

A journey of 500,000 miles could take someone to the moon and back, with enough distance left for a trip around the block.

However, those not planning to take an inter-galactic trip anytime soon could just ensure that their motor’s engine is in good condition and ready to travel a long way if necessary.

Drivers in Hillingdon invited to test green benefits of Ford car parts

Motorists living in the London borough of Hillingdon who would like to experience first-hand the benefits of some of the latest green car parts to be developed by Ford may want to take part in an upcoming trial.

Residents in the area are being called upon to volunteer to test out battery electric vehicles based on the manufacturer’s Focus model.

As many as 20 households will get the opportunity to run the cars for three months.

Successful applicants will have domestic charging points installed in their homes.

Part of the funding for the project is to come from the government’s Technology Strategy Board – which was set up to promote ventures that reduce CO2 emissions and benefit the UK’s transport system.

Chairman of Ford’s UK division Joe Greenwell commented: "Battery electric vehicles represent an important step in Ford’s pursuit of more efficient and sustainable mobility."

In other news, the manufacturer’s fastest ever production car – the Focus RS – recently achieved fuel economy of 38.5 mpg at the MPG Marathon.

Drivers ‘need to check position of head restraints’

A new campaign has been launched to highlight how important it is to position one particular car part correctly.

Move Up is an initiative being run by Brake’s Fleet Safety Forum and is calling on employers to make sure head restraints are well fitted.

The road safety charity explained if these crucial vehicle parts are positioned correctly, they can reduce the risk of whiplash in the event of a collision by 24 per cent.

In light of this, all motorists – whether they drive professionally or not – may be well advised to ensure their head restraints are likely to offer the best levels of protection possible.

However, figures provided by the Fleet Safety Forum show 75 per cent of vehicle owners in the UK are unsure what the best position for this car part is.

Motorists who are in the dark when it comes to this aspect of road safety may find it useful to consult a professional.

In other news, Brake recently launched another campaign to highlight the dangers of getting behind the wheel when tired.

Drivers ‘may benefit from refresher training’

Experienced motorists who want to reduce their chances of being involved in an accident and having to get damaged car parts repaired may want to reassess their driving skills, if a recent investigation is anything to go by.

Which? Car conducted research during which five people re-sat their practical test.

Participants in the trial were aged between 21 and 64 and three of the individuals were unsuccessful.

The main errors committed were failing to check mirrors and not looking to see if blind spots were clear before moving off.

Editor of the publication Richard Headland suggested this highlights the importance of continued training.

He commented: "We recommend that even experienced drivers take refresher or advanced driving courses over the years, which not only improve driving, but may also lower insurance premiums."

Earlier this year, Which? Car praised Lexus for its high standards of customer service and suggested other dealerships could learn from the company’s example.
