Motorists with vehicles that are larger than average could find themselves having to replace damaged car parts as a result of a "growing menace" in the UK, it has been suggested.
The Association of British Drivers (ABD) voiced concern that height barriers are becoming an increasingly common feature at tourist sites, shopping centres and leisure facilities.
It pointed out these traffic control measures are preventing people parking in areas where they have a legitimate right to stop.
The group claimed they can cause a problem for motorhomes, 4×4s, disabled driver vehicles and any auto with a roof rack.
Spokesman Nigel Humphries discussed his experience with such features.
He stated: "I damaged one vehicle on a barrier in Worcestershire, which allowed me to enter the car park … but was lower on the exit side, causing a scrape to the roof."
Earlier this year, ABD issued guidance on how people towing caravans could avoid traffic accidents.
