More motorists may end up searching for replacement windscreens as a result of the deteriorating state of Britain’s roads, if comments from one repair group are anything to go by.
According to Auto Windscreens, the worsening condition of highways and byways has seen demand for its services rise in recent months.
It revealed that over the course of July and August, it faced up to 16 per cent more jobs than during the same months last year.
The group acknowledged the fact increasing numbers of people decided to spend the summer in the UK rather than flying overseas had contributed to the phenomenon, as this meant there was more opportunity for windscreens to get damaged.
However, the company claimed a £1 billion deficit in funding for road maintenance had also played its part.
Sales and Marketing Director Nigel Davies stated: "Motorists who have chosen to save money and holiday at home this year are paying the price for that shortfall".
Earlier this year, the company revealed some of the strangest causes of damage to windscreens.
It reported one customer had sneezed so hard that the mint he was enjoying shot out of his mouth and cracked the windshield.
