Some new Toyota car parts could help drivers reduce their carbon footprint.

The manufacturer has announced it is extending its Avensis line up with the addition of two extra engine options.

A 2.2 D-Cat 150 diesel and a 1.6 Valvematic petrol unit have increased the choice available to buyers.

The first can achieve 44.1 mpg on the combined cycle and releases 169 g/km of CO2, while the second boasts emissions of 152 g/km and is capable of 43.5 mpg.

In terms of performance, the 2.2 D-Cat 150 diesel engine allows the saloon version of the Avensis to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 9.5 seconds.

Meanwhile, it takes the 1.4 Valvematic petrol unit 10.4 seconds to power the auto up to the same speed.

In other news, people who replace worn car parts as quickly as possible to improve their auto’s green credentials may be impressed to hear the new Toyota Prius is capable of 72.4 mpg.
