New Peugeot 207 may wow car parts buyers

Drivers who replace worn car parts in a bid to improve their green credentials may be impressed with the latest model from Peugeot.

The new 207 Economique is set to arrive in showrooms up and down the UK in October, with prices starting from £12,995 – and the manufacturer said the auto highlights its dedication to producing eco-friendly motors.

It stated the model has been fitted with "the latest technology" to ensure it has minimal impact on the environment.

Motorists will find the car boasts CO2 emissions of 99 g/km, which means owners will be exempt from paying road tax.

The manufacturer stated: "Peugeot holds the protection of the environment as a key design strength in all its vehicles and is continuously developing them to reduce their emissions to the lowest possible level."

Meanwhile, people who own an older edition of the 207 may find they can reduce their carbon footprint by replacing any worn parts with cheap Peugeot car spares purchased online.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG ‘is green and powerful’

Motorists who replace worn car parts in order to improve their green credentials may be impressed with the latest model being developed by Mercedes-Benz.

The SLS AMG with electric drive can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in approximately four seconds.

Mercedes-Benz suggested the vehicle’s performance demonstrates the fact a green car can still boast high levels of power.

The electric technology employed by the auto means it offers zero emissions.

However, the company pointed out it was not simply concerned with minimising the vehicle’s impact on the environment.

Chief executive officer Volker Mornhinweg said: "For us, it is not just about responsibility, we attach just as much importance to excitement and classic AMG performance."

Meanwhile, motorists who want to improve both the green credentials and handling of their current auto may find replacing worn parts with car spares bought online can help.

Drivers who do so can increase a vehicle’s efficiency and responsiveness.

“Sophisticated” car parts to grace new Mini

Mini car parts are used to create the manufacturer’s "sophisticated chassis" in the new model, it has been claimed.

The company announced the details of its Mini First today (July 17th), which will have a "frugal" 1.4-litre engine, front and rear suspension systems, a six-speed gearbox and Dynamic Stability Control.

In addition, auto start-stop technology will come as standard.

There are three packages of extras drivers can choose to personalise their Mini First, the marque said.

The Design trim will mean the vehicle comes with heated mirrors, windscreen washer jets, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, mirror caps in the body colour and chrome lines in the interior and exterior.

Salt is the cheapest and brings floor mats, front fog lights, height-adjustable seats, an on-board computer and interior lights to the car.

Tech is the highest-priced and adds a Radio Boost CS, basic Bluetooth package and passenger airbag deactivation switch to the Design trim.

Earlier this year, Mini revealed a special-edition version of the One, Cooper and Cooper D models – the Graphite.

This included dark silver metallic paint, 15-inch alloys and black bonnet stripes, among other features.

A third of drivers ‘do not check certain car parts before a long journey’

Nearly a third of drivers do not check certain car parts before they set off on a motoring holiday, it has been discovered.

Research carried out by Opinium for Saga Motor Insurance found that while 46 per cent of over-50s like to hit the road purely for enjoyment, they may not be preparing their vehicles adequately.

Almost a third of the respondents fail to inspect oil levels before departing, while more than a quarter said they do not give tyre pressures the once-over.

Overall, three-quarters do not take any kind of emergency equipment that would assist them in the event of a breakdown, Saga revealed, adding that the most popular destination for driving holidays was found to be Cornwall.

"It is good to see that people still enjoy driving their cars for pleasure and don’t just view them as a means of getting from A to B," remarked Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman of the Saga Group.

The news follows advice recently given by the Retail Motor Industry Federation, which warned people about the danger of cars overheating.

Award-winning Fiat car parts to grace new Qubo

An award-winning Fiat car part that is designed to help drivers save fuel is to be included in the new Qubo.

The mini multi-purpose vehicle will incorporate the eco:Drive system into its range of features, after the system won a Grand Prix accolade at the recent Cannes Lions Awards.

It works via a USB stick that downloads on to a computer and analyses information about the owner’s driving style. It then offers suggestions on how to improve efficiency to save fuel and cut carbon emissions.

"We want our cars to be fun, but they must also be practical and environmentally-friendly," said Andrew Humberstone, Fiat group Automobiles UK managing director.

"Offering eco:Drive on Qubo will help to spread the benefits of this technology."

Car parts in the new Qubo also include Dynamic and Active trim levels, a 1.3-litre MultiJet turbodiesel engine, or a "perky" 1.4-litre petrol version.

Last week, singer-songwriter James Morrison played a gig in London as part of the promotional campaign for the vehicle.

Motorists ’should not have to understand car parts jargon’

Motorists should not have to learn what various car parts are or what jargon means to obtain a fair price for repairs, it was said this week.

Chris Mason is the director of self-regulatory body Motor Codes and commented after the group found that a fifth of drivers have been asked to pay more for services than originally quoted.

Research found that 12 per cent believe they have been overcharged, 13 per cent were confused about what repair had actually been undertaken and seven per cent were perplexed by technical language used by the garage.

However, Mr Mason said the average car owner should not be expected to know what different terms mean – although there is an element of personal responsibility during the process.

Consumers should not be relied on to understand the ins and outs of car maintenance, he added.

"We need to start basing the transaction on a no surprises basis … removing the variables from the transaction and having a clear route through that the customer understands."

Alfa Romeo car parts ‘help athletes to relax’

Alfa Romeo car parts formed part of a day off recently enjoyed by Olympic medal-winning athletes.

Silverstone was the setting for triple-jumper Phillips Idowu and high-jumper Germaine Mason to have a go at some testing and laps. The event was organised by Alfa Romeo, which is the Official Car Supplier to UK Athletics.

Javelin champion Steve Backley was also in attendance, as he is a performance adviser to the sportsmen.

He said it was "great" and "a lot of fun" for the guys to have some time off and take their minds off the upcoming challenges.

Idowu added it was "completely different" to the kind of training they usually undertake.

He remarked: "Whilst none of us are expert drivers, the competition was pretty intense!"

Last month, Alfa Romeo announced that an England Polo team player had chosen an Alfa Brera S V6 as his new car.

Henry Brett said despite its sport coupe profile, it was able to fit all of his equipment.

Mercedes parts help to police T in the Park

Mercedes parts helped police in Scotland to keep an eye on things at this year’s T in the Park music festival.

The smart fortwo was used by the Tayside officers to move between different sites at the event and, as a result, it is to be trialled by other forces north of the border.

Tayside Police fleet manager Graham Strachan said the vehicle is "highly visible" and was good for helping maintain presence at the gigs.

Its eco-friendly credentials were also noted. Mr Strachan explained emissions and fuel consumption are currently two priority issues for the authorities.

Mercedez-Benz UK corporate development manager for the north Iain Macpherson also commented on the suitability of smarts, suggesting people "genuinely warm" to them.

"[They are] ideal for community roles – whether general patrol work or visiting local schools, youth groups and neighbourhood watches," he added.

T in the Park took place from July 10th to 12th in Balado, Kinross-shire.

Artists who performed included Blur, Kings of Leon, The Killers and Razorlight.

Motorists who buy Jaguar spares and car parts to keep their prized vehicles running smoothly might take time to cast an eye over the latest luxury addition to the manufacturer’s line-up next week.

The all-new XJ model, which was unveiled to the world for the first time just a fortnight ago, will make its public bow at this year’s Salon Prive in London from July 22nd to 24th.

Geoff Cousins, UK managing director of Jaguar Cars, said the event was "the right choice" for the vehicle’s first appearance.

"The quintessentially British setting of the Hurlingham Club is the ideal venue to debut the latest in a long line of iconic British luxury cars," he commented.

With prices starting at £52,500 and featuring a new aerospace-inspired aluminium body structure, the vehicle is sure to make an impact as an "unprecedented number" of super and luxury cars are unveiled at the show.

The brand-new XJ has already caught the attention of car enthusiast and chat show host Jay Leno, who helped unveil the new model at an exclusive event at London’s Saatchi Gallery last Thursday.
