Innocent car parts buyers ‘could lose out if they are hit by another driver’

Motorists who try and reduce costs by searching for cheap car parts online could end up losing any savings made if they are unfortunate enough to be shunted by another driver while on the road, if new research is anything to go by.

A study by Auto Express found some insurance providers push up premiums for innocent parties in traffic collisions almost as much as they do for those people who are at-fault in a crash.

One company explained this is because individuals who are involved in an accident – regardless of blame – are more likely to make a claim in the future.

However, Auto Express said this was unfair and made the whole concept of establishing who is at fault in a collision pointless.

Spokesperson Julie Sinclair commented: "It makes a mockery of all the legal wrangling and accident reports post-crash that are supposed to determine blame."

Meanwhile, motorists who regularly replace worn car parts may find they reduce the likelihood their vehicle will develop the kind of fault that could lead to a collision.

Hyundai ‘the company of choice for cost-conscious scrappage customers’

Drivers who make sure they always get the best deal when buying car parts may find a trip to their local Hyundai dealership could save them even more money in the long run.

The manufacturer has suggested it is the company of choice for cost-conscious participants in the government’s cash for bangers initiative.

It stated people who opt for its models do not have to shell out excessive amounts of money, adding many other carmakers have recently put up their prices.

Managing director Tony Whitehorn used the i20 as an example and pointed out the auto was 30 per cent cheaper than some of its mainstream rivals.

He claimed: "That’s too big a difference to ignore, especially as the i20 has a better Ncap rating, a longer warranty and a generous level of equipment."

Meanwhile, motorists who have taken advantage of the government’s scrappage scheme to buy a model from the manufacturer may find they can keep it running smoothly for many years to come with cheap Hyundai car spares purchased online.

Used car buyers ’should avoid paying with cash’

Individuals planning to buy used vehicles – that they can keep in peak condition by replacing worn parts with car spares bought online – may want to avoid paying for their auto with cash, if a recent warning is anything to go by.

Motor information company HPI has advised drivers there are fraudsters operating in the UK who are taking advantage of unsuspecting victims by selling them stolen models.

It explained crooks are able to do this by giving such cars the identity of a legitimate vehicle, using illegally obtained DVLA V5s.

However, the group said there are straightforward steps motorists can take to avoid falling foul of such scams.

Director Nick Lindsay stated: "Simply paying for the car through the banking system could outsmart a criminal."

He added many fraudsters would rather walk away from a sale rather than leave a trail that could land them in jail.

Once buyers have established a used auto is legitimate and decided to purchase it, they may find they can keep it on the road for years to come by replacing worn parts with car spares found online.

Study suggests Skoda car spares may be cheap

Skoda car parts may be some of the cheapest auto spares around, if a new study is anything to go by.

Warranty Direct looked into which autos are the least expensive to repair – and the Czech manufacturer’s models came out on top.

Citroen scooped second spot in the table, with Renault clinching third place and Peugeot taking fourth position.

Ford, Seat, Vauxhall, Volkswagen, Honda and Fiat made up the rest of the top ten.

The company behind the research considered 250 models from 30 different carmakers.

Commenting on the findings, managing director Duncan McClure Fisher said the price of fixing a vehicle is not the only factor to take into account when weighing up the benefits of various autos.

He stated: "Repair bills may be low but the regularity with which you visit the garage could be high, or vice versa."

Meanwhile, motorists looking for cheap Skoda car spares may find some of the best deals are available online.

Michael Jackson fan buys car part to pay tribute to hero

Most people would probably wait until they owned a vehicle before they started buying car parts.

However, one Michael Jackson fan has done things the other way round.

Thomas Slater explained when he heard about the death of his idol, he was keen to find some way to pay tribute to the singer and began searching through the private plates on DVLA Personalised Registrations’ website.

While online, the student found MJ09 KOP was available for £390 and he immediately snapped it up.

Referring to his hero, he stated: "Being able to have his initials, the year of his death and the letters KOP for King of Pop as a registration for my car will always be with me."

Unfortunately, Mr Slater has not passed his test yet and he acknowledged it will probably be some time before he can afford an auto on which to display his purchase.

Meanwhile, motorists who have saved up and bought their first vehicle recently may find they can keep it in peak condition for longer by replacing worn elements with cheap car parts found online.

Some car parts ‘may need replacing after a certain age’

Motorists have been advised certain car parts may need replacing after a number of years even if they appear to be in good condition.

According to Kwik-Fit, tyres that are over five years old can start to suffer from premature ageing.

It explained that if this occurs, drivers may be at an increased risk of being involved in an accident.

Research by the group found some 16.7 million autos in Britain could be equipped with potentially dangerous tyres.

It added problems caused by this kind of deterioration may not be immediately obvious.

Customer services director David White said: "Low mileage, older cars tend to be most at risk from premature ageing as their owners assume there’s no problem if they can still see plenty of tread."

Drivers who are concerned about the problem were advised to get tyres checked by a professional.

Booking vehicles in for regular servicing could also help highlight whether other important car parts need replacing.
