Vehicle owners who replace worn car parts at the earliest opportunity in order to ensure their autos are as safe as possible may find taking regular breaks during long journeys can also help to reduce their chances of being involved in an accident.
The Driving Standards Agency has claimed motorists jumping in the car and going on holiday this summer should stop for about 15 minutes in every two hours they are on the road.
In addition to this, it suggested people would do well to avoid getting behind the wheel between midnight and 06:00 as they may find it hard to stay alert between these times.
Drivers were also encouraged to turn off their mobile phones and wear comfortable clothing.
Trevor Wedge, DSA’s chief driving examiner, said following the organisation’s advice could help holidays "get off to the best possible start".
Checking important car parts before leaving could also assist in ensuring people arrive at their destinations safely.
