Motorists who try and reduce costs by searching for cheap car parts online could end up losing any savings made if they are unfortunate enough to be shunted by another driver while on the road, if new research is anything to go by.
A study by Auto Express found some insurance providers push up premiums for innocent parties in traffic collisions almost as much as they do for those people who are at-fault in a crash.
One company explained this is because individuals who are involved in an accident – regardless of blame – are more likely to make a claim in the future.
However, Auto Express said this was unfair and made the whole concept of establishing who is at fault in a collision pointless.
Spokesperson Julie Sinclair commented: "It makes a mockery of all the legal wrangling and accident reports post-crash that are supposed to determine blame."
Meanwhile, motorists who regularly replace worn car parts may find they reduce the likelihood their vehicle will develop the kind of fault that could lead to a collision.
