Independent garages that perform car parts services may have improved their performance recently.
Statistics from Consumer Direct show a 4.16 per cent drop in the amount of concerns raised between January and June 2009 about vehicle workshops.
Motor Codes and the garage industry are trying to raise standards and director of the former Chris Mason said the strategy appears to be working.
Although there is still a long way to go, "the latest news is a welcome indication of improved sector performance", he added.
Garages registered with Motor Codes follow a set of regulations and guidance so customers know they will receive quality service, Mr Mason explained.
According to a survey by the group earlier this month, over a third of people have been left unsatisfied by their experience of car repairs or work, while 12 per cent believe they have been overcharged.
However, buying car parts online may be a way to make sure the right price is paid.
