Motorists who replace car parts as soon as they become worn in order to make sure their vehicles are as environmentally-friendly as possible may be impressed by changes to the Mazda MX-5.

Both the 2009 soft-top and roadster coupe versions of the model are now in showrooms up and down the country – and the manufacturer claimed they are the cleanest editions of the auto ever.

The version equipped with the MZR 1.8i engine boasts CO2 emissions of 167 g/km – down from 174 g/km.

In addition to this, its fuel economy has been improved from 38.7 mpg to 40.4 mpg.

The company predicted the new model would be a hit with motorists.

Jeremy Thomson, the group’s managing director, said: "The 2009 MX-5 effectively builds on the qualities that have made the Mazda’s two-seater roadster the best-selling sportscar in the world."

Meanwhile, drivers who are not ready to trade in their current vehicle from the manufacturer may find they can keep it running smoothly for years to come by replacing worn parts with Mazda car spares bought online.
