A new Toyota car part could help Prius drivers stay cool on a sunny day, it has been suggested.

The manufacturer explained the latest version of the model comes with the option of a solar-powered ventilation unit that reduces cabin temperature without the need for the engine to be running.

It pointed out this was a more fuel-efficient and eco-friendly option than using a traditional air conditioning system.

As well as the innovative ventilation design, the new Prius – due for release at the beginning of August – features another technological first.

Buyers of the T Spirit edition of the car can opt for a Remote Air Conditioning control that allows motorists to ensure the temperature is just right before getting inside.

Prices for the new model start at £18,370 and the solar pack costs £1,450.

Earlier this month, Toyota revealed the Prius has three different driving modes that allow the person behind the wheel to adapt their style to match a variety of conditions.
