A Porsche car part has received an award in a global competition.

The 911 Carrera S 3.8-litre unit has been named Best New Engine 2009.

According to the triumphant manufacturer, it is working hard to improve the efficiency, eco credentials and driving character of all of its sports cars.

However, it claimed this is particularly true when it comes to the 911.

The unit – which took the honours at the International Engine of the Year Awards – is capable of pushing the car to 186 mph.

In addition to this, when used in conjunction with the company’s double clutch transmission, it allows CO2 emissions to be reduced by about 15 per cent and fuel consumption to be cut by 13 per cent.

Meanwhile, people who own a model from the luxury marque may already appreciate how economical they can be.

In order to keep such a vehicle running at its most efficient, owners may find it helps to replace worn parts with Porsche car spares bought online.
