Car Tossing

Drivers who are easily frustrated by their failing cars may find shopping online for new car pats the most stress free way to get their car back in tip top condition. Failing that (and failing all other options) you might just like to see your auto-mobile thrown into the sky and watch in delight as it returns to the earth to shatter in pieces.

This may sound a far far fetched fantasy for frustrated car owners around the world, but North American car owners are being given just such an opportunity. The car tosing event is taking place at the Saratoga Speedway, Vancouver. Disgruntled car owners will get the chance to watch two powerful self loading logging trucks:

“grab two cars (not from the parking lot so it’s safe to come) and toss them as far as they can then they will pick up what’s left of the cars and proceed to rip up as much they can, leaving the once proud family car in as many pieces as possible. Last year the winning toss was just over 90 feet and the vehicle used was torn into nearly 50 different pieces”

The third annual car tossing competition will be taking place this Saturday.

Toyota launches iQ3

Motorists who replace worn car parts at the earliest opportunity to ensure their vehicle is running as efficiently as possible so they minimise their impact on the environment may be impressed by a new Toyota.

The iQ3 is capable of fuel economy of 58.9 mpg on the combined cycle and boasts CO2 emissions of 113 g/km.

Fitted with a 1.33-litre engine, the vehicle is similar to its sibling – the iQ2 – in terms of specification.

However, it does come with a couple of added extras in the form of 16-inch alloy wheels and chrome-finished door mirrors.

Buyers will be looking at paying at least £11,495 for the six-speed manual version of the model, while the Multidrive variation starts at £12,495.

However, motorists who cannot justify shelling out that kind of money at the moment may find there are other ways to improve their green credentials.

Replacing worn parts can help ensure a vehicle is running at its most efficient and drivers who already own a model by the Japanese manufacturer may find they can secure cheap Toyota car spares online.

Replacing worn convertible car parts could be cost-effective choice

People who were planning on updating their current soft top this summer may find it is more cost-effective to simply replace any worn car parts instead.

Figures from British Car Auctions (BCA) have revealed prices for second-hand convertibles have been edging up over the past few months.

The group stated values for this type of model are well above the average for used motors, bucking the general economic trend.

According to the organisation, the popularity of soft tops is more than likely down to predictions of a hot summer.

PR Manager Tim Naylor explained: "The UK weather is probably the biggest single factor in determining convertible values."

BCA suggested prices could rise even further in the coming months.

People who are reluctant to pay over the odds for a new convertible may find by replacing any worn car parts, they can keep their current auto running smoothly for many years to come.

Customers Warned to Look out for 'Ghost Car' Fraud

Motorists on the look out for a good second hand purchases have been warned to look out for con-men selling ‘Ghost Cars’.

The difficultly with this fraud is that gangs are using well known websites to tempt unwitting members of the public. After a customer makes a query about a vehicle, buyers are then redirected to a different website and told to put down payment whilst the car is shipped to them. The problem as far as the customer is concerned is that the car doesn’t exist.

Julia Phipps, Group Marketing Director at car retailer Carcraft gives the folowing advice: “If it’s a deal that seems too good to be true then unfortunately it probably is.

“Alarm bells should also start ringing if the ad is littered with spelling mistakes or the phone number shown only offers a recorded answer machine.

“If you can’t shake the hand of the person you’re buying from or inspect the car before you part with the asking price, then our advice is think twice.”

Even if you are only purchasing new or used carts parts online consumers should exercise caution and make sure they are ordering from reputable dealers.

Director Bites Back at Demand for Smaller Cars

Neil Greig, director of policy and research at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, has criticized

Edinburgh City Council’s attempt to go to ahead with plans to charge high CO2 emitting vehicle owners extra for a parking permit.

Weighing probable benefit against probable cost, Greig sees little advantage to the scheme:

Will we see a sudden improvement in climate change, a reduction in congestion, a further reduction in the number of road crash injuries (they are going down anyway), and will many well-off drivers change their cars and their habits? All unlikely. Will a small number of hard-pressed families feel the financial pinch? Very likely.

He goes onto further emphasis that people drive large cars out of necessity, and that the government should be targeting the real culprits of CO2 emissions: power stations and industry.

If Greig is correct to suggest that a change of auto-mobile is not a feasible option for most families than the purchase of new car parts online might be an alternative measure that will enhance car performance and reduce excess emissions.

Cut In Speed Limit Proposed

ITV1 has recently screened a programme that has looked into whether there should be a reduction in the national speed limit on country roads. Tonight: Country Road 999 assessed whether a reduction in the country road limit – from 60 mph to 50mph would help lower fatalities

On average 6 people die as a result of crashes on rural roads every day within the UK.

Part of the investigation led Mt Saunders to the Isle of Man where there are no speed restrictions on country lanes. The programme featured an interview with Peter Duke, a strong opponent to proposals for an all-Island speed limit. Who thinks driver education would be a more effective strategy, claiming ‘The pleasure of motoring is still accepted here, rather than being seen as almost a crime as it seems to be in some parts of the world’.

Drivers looking to improve safety should also be careful to replace any worn car parts and have their vehicles regularly serviced.

Another Celebrity Crash

If you are looking for spare parts online, it may be that you have damaged your car in a road traffic accident. You might find some comfort in the fact that you are certainly not alone, in fact you are in good company.  Celebrities seem to be domonstating a special knack for crashing cars. Already we have seen Morgan Freeman accused of negligent driving, then we hear that Ronaldo has unforgivably totalled his Ferrari, now Orlando Bloom joins the list, after crashing in Los Angeles this Tuesday.

The Hollywood actor best known for his roles in The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean collided with another vehicle, and was fortunate enough to escape with no injuries. He is said to have swapped insurance details before driving away from the scene.

This is the second car crash that Bloom has been involved in (the previous one occurring in 2007).
