A recent campaign has convinced some motorists of how vital it is to look after one of their vehicle’s most important car parts, it has been suggested.
Comma – the auto care company – declared National Oil Check Week a success.
It revealed some 7,200 drivers had taken the firm up on its offer of free dipstick tests.
The group toured the country, holding roadshows where they discussed the importance of basic vehicle maintenance.
Sales and marketing director Mike Bewsey said: "Most people we spoke to were surprised to discover that their cars needed such regular attention and I’m certain we saved at least a few people having to shell out for a new engine."
According to figures from Comma, the average cost of fixing problems caused by a lack of oil is £1,413.
Meanwhile, motorists looking to replace other parts in order to keep their auto running smoothly may find they can buy a range of cheap car spares online.
