Audi A5 & S5 make Geneva debut

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Volkswagen

Audi is planning to launch its new A5 and S5 models at the 77th International Geneva Motor Show (March 8-18).

The two new models, combine style and practicality with four-seats, 455-litre luggage capacity and a driver-oriented sports chassis with an innovative new configuration.

The S5 quattro will also debut in Geneva, breaking with Audi’s tradition of staggering the launch of the higher performance model. The S5 quattro features a powerful 4.2-litre V8 FSI petrol engine with 354PS. It is priced at £40,025 OTR.

The new A5 will provide an alternative to established German premium sector coupés in the B-segment. It is 4,630mm in length and has a range of longitudinally mounted engines that in the UK will initially include two V6 TDIs and two direct injection petrol FSI V6s,

The two V6 TDI engines are both based on the advanced common rail, piezo-injected units powering A4 and A6 models but with increased outputs - 190PS for the 2.7-litre engine and 240PS for the 3.0-litre.

The A5 2.7 TDI can accelerate from rest to 62mph in 7.6 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 144mph without compromising fuel consumption - 42.1mpg is expected.

The A5 3.0 TDI quattro accelerates from rest to 62mph in a mere 5.9 seconds and can achieve a maximum speed of 155mph, making it second only to the 500PS Q7 V12 TDI in terms of acceleration. However it still manages to return 39.2mpg.

UK prices for the A5 models will range from £30,175 OTR to £34,360 OTR. The first deliveries are expected in July.

Volkswagen

Volkswagen’s new Golf Estate will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show on 6 March.

The model boasts 1,550-litre loadspace - beating all other models in the Golf range. The wide, contoured boot features a low load lip. The rear seats fold flat into the floor and the bootspace is kitted out with multiple load hooks.

There is additional stowage beneath the boot floor, and the model also has a useful 12V socket and heating elements built into the rear windows.

The Golf Estate has been restyled at the front with a new nose featuring a distinctive chrome grille section framed by a set of deep front air dams. The tailgate section is designed to maximise bootspace and the model features a set of bold new rear lights, roof rails and an aerodynamic spoiler mounted on the trailing edge of the rear window.

The new Golf Estate will be powered by a range of advanced engines: diesel variants are available in a choice of 1.9-litre TDI 105 PS and 2.0-litre TDI 140 PS engines. Petrol engines comprise of 1.4-litre TSI 140 PS and 1.6-litre FSI 102 PS variants from the Golf hatchback. The new 1.4-litre 140 PS TSI engine combines the virtues of a small capacity engine and its inherent fuel economy with a supercharger and turbocharger for enhanced performance. The TSI engine features a choice of six-speed manual or quick-shifting DSG gearboxes.

A total of six airbags, alloy wheels, ‘Climatic’ semi-automatic air conditioning, ABS, a radio/CD player and a three-year/60,000-mile warranty come as standard.

Sales of the latest Golf Estate in the UK will commence in the summer.

Seriously impressed, My tail light replacement part arrived in good condition this morning less than 24 hours after contacting you. Much quicker than ordering it through the local BMW dealer and of course much cheaper! It's now fitted on the car and I'm street legal again. I will certainly use you again!
