Audi A5 & S5 make Geneva debut
Wednesday, March 7th, 2007Audi is planning to launch its new A5 and S5 models at the 77th International Geneva Motor Show (March 8-18).
The two new models, combine style and practicality with four-seats, 455-litre luggage capacity and a driver-oriented sports chassis with an innovative new configuration.
The S5 quattro will also debut in Geneva, breaking with Audi’s tradition of staggering the launch of the higher performance model. The S5 quattro features a powerful 4.2-litre V8 FSI petrol engine with 354PS. It is priced at £40,025 OTR.
The new A5 will provide an alternative to established German premium sector coupés in the B-segment. It is 4,630mm in length and has a range of longitudinally mounted engines that in the UK will initially include two V6 TDIs and two direct injection petrol FSI V6s,
The two V6 TDI engines are both based on the advanced common rail, piezo-injected units powering A4 and A6 models but with increased outputs - 190PS for the 2.7-litre engine and 240PS for the 3.0-litre.
The A5 2.7 TDI can accelerate from rest to 62mph in 7.6 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 144mph without compromising fuel consumption - 42.1mpg is expected.
The A5 3.0 TDI quattro accelerates from rest to 62mph in a mere 5.9 seconds and can achieve a maximum speed of 155mph, making it second only to the 500PS Q7 V12 TDI in terms of acceleration. However it still manages to return 39.2mpg.
UK prices for the A5 models will range from £30,175 OTR to £34,360 OTR. The first deliveries are expected in July.
